Uganda Solidarity Summit on Refugees "Translating New York Declaration Commitments Into Action"
Date and location: Kampala, June 22nd and 23rd
Hosted by HE. Yoweru Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, and H.E. António Guterres, UN Secretary General, the Summit aims. The Summit is jointly organized by Government of Uganda, the Office of the United Nations Secretary- General, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, with the support of the UN in Uganda. The Summit will also be attended by the High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi. It will convene around 500 stakeholders (Heads of government, UN, international financial institutions, international and regional organizations, NGOs, private sector, civil society, academia, etc.). It will include a high-level policy dialogue structured around key CRRF pillars. Participants will hear directly from refugee and host community representatives. To set the stage for pledges of solidarity, the Government and the UN in Uganda will present gaps and areas where government authorities, refugees and host communities require support to maintain Uganda's progressive refugee regime. High-profile speakers will make keynote addresses on needs, solutions and opportunities. The Summit will include a pledging event and field visits to refugee-hosting districts and refugee settlements for select participants. The field visits coincide with World Refugee Day (June 20)
